There's very little crossover between scooter and motorcycle clientele, says Warren Milner, Honda Canada's long-standing marketing guru, and, unlike the traditional bike segment, scooter sales are actually growing. Sales have been on a consistent growth pattern for the last decade or so, save for 2007 when both Yamaha and Honda actually ran out of product.

A lot of those 10,000 units were the sub-50-cubic-centimetre roustabouts that are so popular in Quebec, since 14-year-olds are allowed to ride them. The rest, however, are remarkably sophisticated machines, more powerful than the Vespas of old, ranging all the way up to the twin-cylinder, 650-cc Suzuki Burgman.
